I bought a key from AMAZON, E-BAY, ONLINE. Can you cut and program it for me?

Yes we can but we don’t offer any warranty or guarantee or refund on any customer supplied material. Our service call and plug-in fee to attempt to program your supplied material is non-refundable regardless if the programming is successful or not. You are paying us for our time, not whether we are successful or not. These online low price keys and remotes have a high failure rate. We will not be responsible for any damage or loss from material not supplied by I – Tech Locksmith and Security.

Should I ask the locksmith for a cost estimate?

Call center locksmiths typically quote prices between $15 and $40 to start. They bait-and-switch customers by advertising low prices, then price gouging after they arrive, claiming the job is more complicated and will cost more.
A locksmith’s fee pays for tools, licensing costs, transportation to and from a job, and continued training. No skilled or reputable locksmith that charges $15 for a job could remain in business.

As a reliable local locksmith service company we recommend getting an estimate before any work begins, including emergency service. Don’t hire a locksmith who refuses to provide an estimate!

I locked my keys in the car. Will my car insurance cover the cost?

Just moved into a new home. Do I need to re-key my locks or should I entirely replace them?

When you move into a new home, you should change the locks on your house. A properly locked door is your first line of defense against intruders. You have no idea how many copies of the house keys are floating around from the previous homeowners, so changing the locks will keep your new house more secure. However, if the lock itself is in good shape, it may be possible to rekey the lock instead of replacing it.

What’s the difference between a transponder key and a remote key?

Transponder Key
The basic purpose of having transponder keys is to protect your vehicle from car theft. Having an automotive security system helps prevent vehicles from being stolen or hot-wired.
So, what makes a transponder key special? In a simple word — security. Have you ever wondered or even noticed that just about every car key has a fat black head that’s distinct from the blade? That’s because there’s special technology inside of it that interacts with your car every single time you put the key in the Ignition. The transponder key contains an electronic micro-chip built into the head of the key, which is why some people call them chip keys. The key responds to a special signal in your ignition lock, communicating to the car that it’s good to start up. Without this signal, the car won’t start, even if you have a perfect replica of the key blade. That makes cars exceptionally hard to steal. Without the original transponder key, your car isn’t going anywhere.

Remote Key
Remote keys are designed for user convenience rather than security. Remote keys allow you to lock and unlock your car at will, which is much more timely and easy than putting your metal key in the lock every single time.
Fob, key fobs or fob key are all synonyms for a keyless entry remote transmitter. Key fobs allow car owners to unlock the vehicle from several feet away from the vehicle. As an additional feature some key fob controls allow trunk opener button, alarm (sometimes as a security option and sometimes just horn button). For more expensive cars you may also find a remote starter feature.

How often do I need to get my house locks changed?

Unlike the filter in your HVAC system or engine oil in your car, you don’t need to switch the locks on your door every month or two. Door locks aren’t something people change that often but there are times when you need to change your locks over rekeying. How often you change your door locks should be determined by certain incidents. Here are some occasions when you should change your locks: you moved, you lose your keys, you’ve been the victim of a home burglary or your lock is damaged.
